OUR STORY
In the early 2000s, Mike started grilling hamburgers and steaks in the backyard as a hobby feeding family and friends. One night he was watching the Food Network and saw a program on barbeque competitions. The sights of smoked brisket pulled pork, and ribs made his mouth water. The simple grilled cheeseburger just didn't seem to cut it anymore. He went and bought a simple $200 offset smoker from Home Depot. After a couple of attempts at replicating those smoked meats, he realized he wanted to learn more.
In 2007, Mike attended the BBQ Institute where I received training from award-winning Pitmaster Konrad Haskins. Armed with this new knowledge he returned to the backyard. He started cooking for more people, and bigger parties. People began requesting his BBQ for their parties. He upgraded to a much larger Klose offset smoker to cook larger quantities. Friends suggested that he start selling BBQ and Mount Hood BBQ was born.
In 2022 Chris and Mike purchased a Food Trailer. We opened at 1301 Belmont Steet in Hood River where we remain to this day. Mike smokes the BBQ meats using the recipes we have honed over the years. Chris runs all the operations at the Food Trailer. Our BBQ was a hit. That first year we were awarded the 2nd Best Food Truck in the Best of the Gorge contest. We followed that up in 2023 by winning 2nd Best Food Truck again as well as Best Barbeque Restaurant.
When we are now out selling food at events around the Gorge, we can be found at 1301 Belmont Street in Hood River Oregon.
This winter season ‘24-’25 normally we shut down and take a few months off, however, we will be heading to Mt Hood Meadows HRM LOT as their official food truck. I am pretty stoked about this new adventure, so see you on the mountain!
